The trailer for Geoffrey Fletcher's upcoming movie "Violet & Daisy" has arrived, and it definitely is not what we were expecting. The flick stars Saoirse Ronan and Alexis Bledel as two teenage assassins who love their line of work but are drawn into a hit they don't quite understand and quickly get in over their heads. It seems like a simple enough premise, but the trailer reveals that the movie could actually be much more.

First of all, it's a whole lot funnier than the story would lead one to believe. There's a certain tongue-in-cheek quality to the trailer that is intriguing, but it's unclear if that's indicative of the movie as a whole or just the marketing. Hopefully it's the latter, as one of the main plot points in "Violet & Daisy" is that the girls take on a hit so they can have enough money to buy dresses.

Secondly, this trailer is visually stunning -- again, not what we expected when we first heard "Violet & Daisy's" logline. The surreal imagery shown here is gorgeous, and some of the critics' quotes seem to suggest that the whole film is loaded with this style of cinematography. Count us on board for that.

"Violet & Daisy" premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2011 and is slated to be released on June 7. It also stars Danny Trejo, James Gandolfini and Cody Horn. Here's the official synopsis:

Violet (Alexis Bledel) and Daisy (Saoirse Ronan) are a pair of gum-cracking teenage assassins who casually snuff out crime figures in New York City, distracted only by the fact that a concert by their favorite pop idol Barbie Sunday has suddenly been canceled. Determined to raise cash for some Barbie Sunday dresses, the duo takes on a new hit job targeting a mysterious loner (James Gandolfini) who leads them into an unexpected odyssey of self-examination and catapults the junior enforcers into a world beyond Barbie Sunday and bullets for pay. From Academy Award-winning screenwriter Geoffrey Fletcher ("Precious") comes a mesmerizing hybrid of New York City crime fable and existential coming-of-age drama. In "Violet & Daisy" teenage kicks match wits with adult-world turmoil, placing three wounded souls into a line of fire none expected -- themselves.
