Beyoncé and Jennifer Lopez know something about running the world. They run the music-movie-dance-mother-activist world, and now they're teaming up for the Sound of Change concert to empower women worldwide.
The Chime for Change and Gucci-sponsored concert will take place in London on June 1 with proceeds from tickets going to the women-loving charity of the purchaser's choice. After the concert on June 2, attendees will pick an org supporting education, health and justice initiatives for girls and women everywhere. While the world looks forward to this fierce concert, here are four songs JLo and Bey should totally sing together at the big night!
+ Let's Get Loud
Jenny from the Block sings, "If you wanna live your life/Live it all the way and don't you waste it" and "You gotta do it, you gotta do it your way." A big part of women's rights is that women need to make their own decisions about their lives, their careers and their bodies. You can get loud for women's rights with a number of different orgs, including Jennifer's own Lopez Family Foundation, and One Billion Rising. 1BR fights violence against women, and it wants everyone to raise their voices for women's well-being.
+ Run the World (Girls)
Who runs the world? Girls! Beyoncé's catchy song is a homage to girl power as she sings, "I'm reppin' for the girls who taking over the world/Help me raise a glass for the college grads" and "How we're smart enough to make these millions/Strong enough to bear the children/Then get back to business." A major way to help women get in more positions of power is to first make sure girls have access to education by supporting initiatives like the Malala Fund.
+ Independent Women
Back in her Destiny's Child days, Beyoncé and the group released their song "Independent Women," which cheers on women who work hard and depend on themselves. Speaking to potential BFs, the women sing, "Question: Tell me how you feel about this/Try to control me, boy, you get dismissed/Pay my own fun, oh, and I pay my own bills/ Always fifty-fifty in relationships." It's vital that women can take care of themselves financially, and Dress for Success is one org helping women on their career paths.
Surely the ladies will sing some of their latest songs, too. Bey's "Grown Woman" and JLo's "Live It Up" are sure to be anthems worth adding to the Sounds of Change line up, which will also include John Legend, Rita Ora, Florence Welch and Ellie Goulding.
