John Mayer definitely has a way with the guitar and the ladiez, but did you know he's also pretty handy with a paintbrush? He ain't Picasso but we caught the singer showing off his house painting skills last week, and it was all for a good cause.

The singer traveled to Shreveport, Louisiana, to help paint Cliff Malone's new house. Malone, an Iraq veteran, is one of many Shreveport residents who has a new home thanks to the Veterans Build 2013 and the Fuller Center, an organization that builds affordable homes for families in need.

Although Mayer doesn't come from a military family, he was inspired to do more to help veterans after visiting a military camp in 2008. He said that he realized that he could "apply (himself)…outside of being a celebrity."

So what did Mayer think about his time slinging paint to help out Malone? He said you'd be surprised "how quickly you take value in your work when you start putting the first couple of brush strokes down…I feel like we have a common goal in getting this house, at least on the paint side of things, to be as good as it would be if a professional came in and did it. It's personal."

Malone said that, as a veteran, you never think "that somebody's going to help you." He said he sometimes come by, looks at his house and says, "Is this really mine? Where did this come from?"
