Ever since she lost her second mom, Wendy, to cancer, Jordin Sparks has been dedicated to fighting against melanoma (a type of skin cancer). Because May is Melanoma Awareness Month, Jordin has gone to Twitter to spread awareness and honor Wendy's memory.
The "Sparkle" star Tweeted:
This is Wendy. She passed May 21 2008. This month of Melanoma Awareness is 4 her. #orange4wendy <3 twitter.com/JordinSparks/s…""

Last year Jordin was also big on Tweeting about melanoma during May. While something like melanoma isn't totally preventable, there are ways to lessen your chances of getting it. Now that the weather is getting warmer people are getting down to shorts and tanks, but it's important to keep yourself protected. Avoiding direct sunlight from ten till three can make a big diff, and so can covering up. Hats with brims can keep you better protected, and slapping on some sunscreen would do the trick. Sunglasses not only make you look good but keep your eyes safe.
It's also important to check your body and talk to your doctor if you see any marks that you think might look suspicious. Melanoma is especially dangerous because it's a kind of cancer that can spread -- what starts in your skin can go to other parts of your body. Don't panic, though: being educated on melanoma, protecting yourself and keeping up to date with your doctor go a long way. There are treatments available for melanoma, especially if it's caught early.
Judging by this other Tweet (and pic) Jordin shared, she's as dedicated as ever about going orange in May:
