As the "Star Trek Into Darkness" promotional machine continues to take over Europe, J.J. Abrams has been confront with more and more questions about his next project, "Star Wars: Episode VII." In a recent interview with the BBC, Abrams opened up about how he is approaching such a Herculean task.

Abrams explained that to do "Star Wars" just he has to be honest to himself, what he wants as a filmmaker, and the characters that people have loved for decades.

"It's just about about approaching it from as authentic a place as possible, and not trying to apply what you believe or think, as much as trying to filter everything and get at it from the core of the characters," Abrams said. "[It should be] what you deeply want to see, never what you assume the fans might like."

The director also addressed the question on the mind of just about every sci-fi fan in the world. How can one man control both the "Star Trek" and "Star Wars" franchises? His answer was that the series' differences make it a non-issue.

"To me they are such wildly disparate universes— the back story, the tone, the mood, certainly the history [and] the characters—that I'm in no way worried," he said.

We'll see what the future holds for J.J. Abrams, "Star Trek" fans, and "Star Wars" fans alike, when "Star Trek Into Darkness" opens on May 17 and "Star Wars: Episode VII" hits theaters in the summer of 2015.
