When Demi Lovato entered treatment in late 2010, many people were shocked. Since her January 2011 release, the "Heart Attack" singer has been very open about her struggles and what's she doing now to stay healthy. In a new interview with Company magazine, Lovato talked about the importance of having a solid support system in place.
Lovato isn't the only one who needs good friends in her corner, though. This month is National Mental Health Awareness Month, so we thought we'd share some quotes from Demi's interview as well as her tips for what healthy friendships look like.

+ Quality Friends>>>>Quantity Friends
The singer talked about a birthday party she had before she entered rehab, saying "There were a couple of hundred people there. It was full of people who I considered my closest friends." When she left rehab she "expected lots of text messages and phone calls." When she checked her phone, however, Demi only had four texts, which she calls "a wake-up call."
+ Demi's Definition of a Real Friend
So what does being a real friend look like for Demi now? She admits that she doesn't "have loads of friends." She used to, but she quickly started asking herself, "Do any of them actually care?" Now that she's healthy and trying to surround herself with the best people, she says she's chosen better friends. She goes on to say "If I break my leg in the middle of the night, they'll come to the hospital with me. Or they'll answer the phone at 4 am if I need them."
If you're struggling to find out who your true friends are, follow Lovato's lead. Which friends will be there for you in your time of need? Remember, you don't need a ton of friends (even on FB); you just need the ones you can count on to be there for you no matter what. True blue pals, FTW!!
