About one fifth of kids in the United States live their life not knowing where their next meal is coming from, so ConAgra Foods has created the Child Hunger Ends Here campaign. "Glee" star Amber Riley, up-and-comer singer Tori Kelly, Carly Rae Jepsen and Cody Simpson have all lent their voices to the program.
Tori wrote "Fill A Heart," the official song for the campaign, and from now until May 2 you can send in your cover of the beautiful song. Tori, Amber and Cody each get to pick their three faves, and then Justin Bieber's manager Scooter Braun will pick the final winner of the contest. To learn more about the campaign, the contest and how you can help child hunger, we chatted with both Tori and Amber fill our ears on the deets!
ACT: Why are you involved with the Child Hunger Ends Here campaign? How can people help?
TORI KELLY: Child Hunger Ends Here reached out to me to write a song for the campaign. I was definitely all for it, but the more I learned what they were doing -- and learned that one in five kids doesn't know where their next meal is coming from -- I became more passionate. I really wanted to get involved with this charity. Even spreading awareness can really make a difference in helping a kid's life. Right now I'm right in the middle of the "Fill A Heart" tour. I'm actually on my way right now in the car to visit and volunteer at the Miami Food Bank.
AMBER RILEY: It's a really great way to give back and they've made it super easy for people to help. Look for a red pushpin and a code on the back of ConAgra foods products then go to childhungerendshere.com and enter the code. 1 Code = 1 Meal!
ACT: What can you tell us about the cover contest?
TORI: There's a cover contest going on with my song "Fill A Heart." Fans get to do their own cover and it helps get more awareness out there. You can send me these covers and I will get to choose three of them. Ten winners get to give a thousand dollars to a local Feeding America food bank of their choice. I'll be choosing three of the winners whose covers are my favorite.
ACT: "Fill A Heart" is a beautiful song. Can you tell us about your inspiration behind it?
TORI: I sat down in my bedroom with my guitar, thinking of ideas for the song. I was trying to not over think it. For me, the challenge was to make a song that would not be corny, but would make an impact. That was my challenge. I was watching different videos that they [Child Hunger Ends Here] have done in the past and thinking about all these facts, and it kind of just came naturally.
ACT: Amber -- You've also been involved in things like Mean Stinks and you're a member of Seventeen Magazine's Body Peace Council. How do you decide what philanthropies and campaigns to get involved with?
AMBER: There's not really a decision process, I just like to help when I can.
