The previews and clips from Ryan Gosling's upcoming movie with "Drive" director Nicolas Winding Refn, "Only God Forgives," have made two things about the Thai-set crime thriller: It's going to be beautiful, and it's going to be violent.
"Only God Forgives" doesn't open in U.S. theaters until July 19, but festival audiences will be able to catch it this month at Cannes and in June at the L.A. Film Festival. If you can't make it to those special screenings and cannot wait until July, a new behind-the-scenes featurette (via The Playlist) explores Refn's thoughts on violence and how to show it properly in movies.
The whole speech makes sense, but it's certainly odd. And Refn's audience for the talk, Gosling, seems to agree with that sentiment. He spends most of the video shooting curious looks back at the camera, making sure he's not the only one hearing the director take about how violence is sex.
"Only God Forgives" opens in theaters on July 19.
