When Ian Somerhalder speaks, we listen. Or, we at least attempt to listen while we think about how lucky girlfriend Nina Dobrev is. Regardless, Somerhalder always has something to say, which is one of the reasons why we love when he takes to Twitter to talk politics, his foundation or, you know, anything.

So you're probably wondering what is sequestration, right? According to CNN, sequestration is "a series of automatic, across-the-board cuts to government agencies, totaling $1.2 trillion over 10 years. The cuts would be split 50-50 between defense and domestic discretionary spending."

Somerhalder isn't the only one who thinks the cuts are bad news. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta says the spending cuts would "cut sharply into military readiness." If you're still not sure what the big deal is, consider this. More than $500 billion of those cuts would be cut on "the domestic side -- national parks, federal courts, the FBI, food inspections and housing aid."

The HuffPo story that Somerhalder tweeted about details the many organizations that would be negatively affected by the cuts. According to the site, HIV prevention programs, small business loans and early education program Head Start are just a few of the things that would suffer.
