We're still half a year away from the 85th annual Academy Awards, but it turns out the host and producer were almost already decided.

Before he left his position as Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences president, Tom Sherak reportedly tried to lock down Jimmy Fallon as host and Lorne Michaels as producer for next year's Oscars. The Los Angeles Times and Deadline offer up two different versions of the events, and it's unclear whether Fallon is still a contender for the position now that Sherak is gone.

Apparently one of the big issues with having Fallon as host is the fact that he has long been a staple of NBC, the rival network of ABC. Both "Saturday Night Live" and "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" are NBC shows, and the latter is a direct competitor to ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" So despite Fallon's good run at the 2010 Emmys and his hosting gigs at the 2009 VMAs and 2006 and 2001 MTV Movie Awards, it sounds like this actually may not be his year to host the Oscars after all.

While I think Fallon is a funny comedian and enjoy his late night show, I don't think he would make for the best Oscars host. He's a goofy, giggly guy, which certainly has its place in the comedy world, but doesn't quite fit with the self-important Academy Awards persona. I can just picture him breaking out laughing in the middle of a sketch that he's supposed to be performing and cringe.

At the same time, Fallon has really blossomed in his years as a late night TV host. He's got a great relationship with many celebrities in Hollywood and always manages to get some great material from them. I'm sure he could pull off some great bits during the show, but that might not be enough to support the entire event. Honestly I think he needs a few more years under his belt: look at Anne Hathaway and James Franco's hosting gig and compare it to last year's performance by Billy Crystal.

It does seem smart to bring a comedian on as host, though. And late night celebs like Jon Stewart and David Letterman have done a great job at the Oscars in the past. I think that Jimmy Kimmel would actually make for a great host this year, which would work out better for ABC. He also has great relationships with celebs (please go watch "I'm F--king Ben Affleck" right this second if you haven't already) and his humor can be both grounded and goofy at the same time (look at his "Celebrities Read Mean Tweets" video), all of which are elements the Academy is likely looking for. He's an everyman, and that's a quality that works great in these circumstances. Fallon would probably do a fine job as a host too, but I personally wouldn't be too heartbroken if it took him a few more years to get the gig.

It's one of the hottest topics in the electronic dance music world. As a result of EDM's recent surge in popularity, what exactly it means to DJ has become a much-debated topic.

With deadmau5 confessing that DJs just "press play," A-trak encouraging DJs to challenge themselves and our colleague Jacob at Dancing Astronauts issuing a heartfelt DJ "Call-Out," we recently had a very frank conversation with an electronic music legend, who broke down his thoughts on the art of DJ'ing.

Our good friends at Surrender Nightclub in Las Vegas helped MTV News catch up with Eric Prydz, who just launched into the states in support of is new collection, Eric Prydz Presents Pryda. Here's what the legend had to say!

"I think you need to look at what is 'a DJ set' and what is a 'live show,'" Prydz told MTV News. "If you do a live show, everything needs to be synchronized and it's very hard to go and do a big show where you have your fireworks and you have your visuals and you have your projection cubey stuff, to go up there and improvise. These big shows that you see today, it's not about performing, as such. It's more that you go up there and you show them what you have been performing in the studio, you know, 'cause that's where a lot of these people shine."

He continued, "It's not that much about going onstage and doing something amazing, like juggling with ten balls at the same time. It is actually about just pressing play, I think. Obviously, you will have some control and you can change the music in real time, but it's not like you're standing there and playing all the instruments at the same time."

Prydz believes that actual DJ'ing is very different from what goes on at the large-scale live productions many acts are putting on.

"DJ'ing is something totally different. For me, DJ'ing is turning up to a place not knowing what you are going to play at all. You read the crowd, you kind of say...'OK, I'm going to start with this track, so I think they're gonna like that, and just take it from there,' and try to build and build and build over a longer period of time," Prydz told MTV News. "It's not the festival thing, where you turn up and play a one hour set, but you have two, three, four, five, even six hours. You can build and atmosphere and just drive people crazy, you know? And that, there're not that many DJs these days that can play in that certain way. I think DJs like Sasha and John Digweed were the pioneers of that and they've been a massive inspiration for me. Instead of playing track after track, you know, the big track, the big track, the big track, they use pieces of music as pieces of bricks to build something even bigger. It's two different things: The kind of big live production thing and the actual DJ side of things."

Beyonce has added yet another fab title to her always evolving superstar resume! Queen Bey -- who teased "Leave your footprint on 19 August 2012" on her website last month -- is teaming up with the United Nations to celebrate World Humanitarian Day on August 19th.

In hopes of reaching over a billion people, Beyonce will film a live video of "I Was Here" at the UN General Assembly Hall taped in front of a live audience set to debut that day! B explained further in a statement,

We all see the headlines and we think, what I can really do to help? World Humanitarian Day is an opportunity for all of us to work together to make a difference. This is our time to leave our mark on the world and show that we were here and we care.

On "Awkward." Jake is hot and in love with Jenna. Reeeeally hard to be her these days right? Except it is, because Jenna isn't sure she feels the same way.

So what can be done? Jenna decides that it may be time to have sex with Jake, after friends tell her it might help sort out her feelings. Too bad she accidentally told him she thought she was ready out loud over the school's intercom. Ummm NIGHTMARE.

After that school-wide embarrassment, Jenna begins to question herself and asks,  if sex won't really clarify anything "is it worth the risk?"

Clearly, things can get tricky when it comes to deciding when it's time to start having sex or not. You might hear a lot of different opinions, from your friends and from your bf/gf. There's no cheat sheet for this part of life — "when am I ready?" is a question only you can answer. Jenna is right not to rush off to the sanctuary with Jake at the first possible moment without thinking through the risks. After all, sex comes with a lot of baggage -- the only 100% effective method of preventing pregnancy and STDs is just not having sex. We also love that just because Jenna's had sex before, she doesn't feel like she has to rush with Jake—it's okay to say no at any point in any relationship.

It turns out that we won't have to wait until October to see the many different characters in "Cloud Atlas."

Warner Bros has launched an official website for the upcoming Wachowskis and Tom Tykwer movie, and it features the various faces that stars Halle Berry, Tom Hanks, Jim Broadbent, Jim Sturgess and Hugo Weaving wear in the film. We only saw them teased in the extended trailer that was released in July, and now we get to see them in their full glory.

As you can see in the above image, not all of the characters that the actors play are constrained by their skin color, race or gender. Berry plays a white woman in one storyline. Weaving plays a woman. Sturgess plays an Asian character.

From what we know about the story, the link between each actor's characters is their personality. Based on David Mitchell's 2004 novel of the same name, "Cloud Atlas" will weave together six different storylines that take place over many time periods for one overall narrative.

"We thought about these individual characters as aspects of larger characters," Lana Wachowski said in a recent interview. "Their lives are interwoven over one big story that takes place over a thousand years."

"Cloud Atlas" was co-directed by Lana and Andy Wachowski and Tom Tykwer. The movie also stars Ben Whishaw, Hugh Grant, Susan Sarandon and James D'Arcy.

If there's one thing we're obsessed with, it's weight. Many people are made to feel bad about their bodies, and Khloé Kardashian Odom has had enough of it.

Khloé, whose weight has been an issue in magazines (what, slow news day?) had this to say:

Still get disgusted by how people judge others by weight. Either "fat" or "skinny". Nothing is ever good enough...

If more people step up and talk about it like Khloé, it can help make a difference. Right now there are a lot of people chasing after an ideal that's not even realistic. You know those pictures you compare yourself to in magazines and then you feel bad? They've been photoshopped. A lot.

Khloé's someone in the media, so she feels the pressure to look a certain way big time. But that doesn't mean that people who aren't on TV don't also feel all those negative social pressures. About one percent of men suffer from eating disorders, but that number rises way up with women. About one in ten women has an eating disorder like anorexia or bulimia. If people think about these numbers, maybe they wouldn't be so quick to attack people for how they look. Khloé def wants a change for the better.

Michael Madsen has had the pleasure of lending his respective talents to some of Quentin Tarantino's most iconic flicks, "Reservoir Dogs" and both "Kill Bill" movies. Now, regarding his roles in those films, there's always chatter that he just might get the chance to reprise his roles of Mr. Blonde and Budd.

It's chatter Madsen has heard, but in his meetings with Tarantino in the last few years hasn't been able to nail down any confirmations regarding a third "Kill Bill" film, or the Vega Brothers flick, which would follow Mr. Blonde who happens to be the brother to John Travolta's Vincent Vega in "Pulp Fiction."

When MTV News chatted with Madsen this week, he seemed up for something, if something should ever come along on either of those fronts.

"Well, when it comes to Quentin and you're asking these kind of questions, I mean he never really has a clear answer. You know he'll usually go on for 45 minutes and never answer the question," he explained regarding "Kill Bill," before launching into the future of that Vega Brothers film.

"It's kind of like the Vega Brothers thing," he continued. "He's been talking about Vega Brothers for how many years now? I mean it's just kind of like 'Alright.' First it was supposed to be a sequel then it was supposed to be a prequel and then it was supposed to be some other thing where me and Travolta were supposed to be twin brothers of the characters from 'Reservoir Dogs' and 'Pulp Fiction,' which is kind of crazy. But in a way I guess it's Tarantino. If anyone can get away with that, it's him."

In fact, if Travolta isn't available for any possible rescreen re-imaginings of the Vega boys, Madsen offered this suggestion, "But, you know, I could play my twin brother. That'd be fine."

Soon, the conversation turned back to "Kill Bill," where he shared he doesn't know if it could ever happen or what that would look like. "But I don't know [about] making the 'Kill Bill' thing. He was saying that he was going to do like every year or every couple years, he was going to do like another version or an update or another 'Kill Bill' chapter sort of thing," he said. "But I think sometimes… he's a thinker. He's always trying to get something made. You got to stop and realize really actually making another chapter of 'Kill Bill' is a little kind of a, you know, what would the story be? It would be far from me to try and figure out. I know it's been talked about and he's mentioned to me and I've heard that before. But you know whether or not it's actually going to happen … who the hell knows, nobody knows I guess."

Adam Lambert's latest album Trespassing debuted at #1 back in May, and now, nearly three months later, the former "American Idol" contestant is reassuring his dedicated fans that he does plan to hit the road in support of the set … but not until "the time is right."

The glam-pop star hit Twitter last night (August 2) to tell the nation of Glamberts that a Trespassing tour will indeed happen but that they might have to wait a while longer. "Have no fear, a Trespassing Tour WILL come. When the time is right," Lambert tweeted. "Trust me Glamberts! I won't let you down."

Lambert's second album Trespassing topped the charts with 77,000 copies sold in its opening frame. The singer's 2009 debut, For Your Entertainment, entered the chart at #3 and has gone on to sell more than 1 million copies.

Leaving his governorship behind him, Arnold Schwarzenegger's next role as leading man is in "The Last Stand." Schwarzenegger stars in Jee-Woon Kim's English-language directorial debut alongside Genesis Rodriguez, Johnny Knoxville and Forrest Whitaker.

The 65 year-old former "Terminator" is Sheriff Ray Owens, a former Los Angeles cop who moves to a sleepy border-town when, according to USA Today, "his law-enforcing slow lane is invaded by a notorious drug kingpin who escapes custody and speeds his way to the U.S.-Mexican border with his lethal gang— straight through Owens' Summerton Junction."

Not unlike Schwazenegger's off-screen self, Sheriff Ray Owens "hasn't had to flex his muscles in a while," Schwarzenegger told USA Today. Suffice it to say the little town of Summerton Junction and its lackluster local law enforcement is no match for the drug lord, "so when the gangsters come to town, it's a big test," he said.

Lucky for audiences, the plot twists mean Schwarzenegger is back to being a big screen badass. But the fact that his role in the film might be a metaphor for his return isn't lost on Schwarzenegger, who said, "I guess I could have started slow and eased into it. But it felt amazing to be back jumping off buildings, seeing huge explosions, getting in car chases and throwing punches."

Since leaving the governor's mansion Schwarzenegger has had a full production schedule. Before "The Last Stand" comes to theaters in 2013, you can see Schwarzenegger in "The Expendables 2" on August 17. He'll also be in next year's "The Tomb" and "Breacher."

As British singer songwriter Ellie Goulding nears the October release date of her new album Halycon, she is slowly but surely giving us a taste of the upcoming effort. A newly revealed trailer for the album showcases the multitude of styles and influences we can expect to find on the album.

The video provides the first batch of new material from the singer since her 2010 debut Lights, which went number one in the UK upon its release and houses the smash title track, which is still sitting pretty at #5 in the U.S. Billboard Hot 100.

The two-minute teaser previews clips of several songs from Halycon.

It's anyone's guess if Goulding's collaborative track with Skrillex and Swedish House Mafia members made the cut. SHM member/collaborator Sebastian Ingrosso wasn't so sure if the song would even end up on her album, saying, "I think it's going to be for [Ellie's] album, but in this business you don't know until you see it on iTunes."

We got out first very first taste of new material from Goulding early last month when she released a wicked cover of Active Child's "Hangining On," which features guest vocals from Brit rapper Tinie Tempah.

Goulding's first official new single, "Anything Could Happen," is expected to drop on September 30 before we get Halycon in its entirety on October 8.

Will Ferrell is reuniting with "Wedding Crashers" stars Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn in the upcoming comedy "The Internship," though at least they won't be crashing funerals this time around. Instead, Ferrell will reportedly be playing a home electronics salesman who really, really loves the ladies, though he doesn't necessarily rev their engines as much as he might like.

Variety broke the news about Ferrell's inclusion, adding that he'll play the brother-in-law to Wilson's character. According to the outlet, Ferrell's character "has no problem making inappropriate comments about his attractive customers." Sounds like something the "Anchorman" star can handle with ease.

The role will be a cameo of the same size and importance as his part in "Wedding Crashers." In that film, he played a mentor to Wilson and Vaughn's titular wedding crashers who later teaches them that they should crash funerals instead. Those scenes ended up being some of the most memorable moments of the 2005 comedy.

Appropriately, this is the first time Wilson and Vaughn have reteamed since "Wedding Crashers" as well. In "The Internship" they play two unemployed old-school salesmen who try to reinvent themselves by taking internships at a major tech company. Hilarity then ensues.

Ferrell joins an already stacked cast. "The Internship" also stars Max Minghella, Rose Byrne, John Goodman, Dylan O'Brien, JoAnna Garcia, Eric Andre, Josh Brener, Tiya Sircar, Aasif Mandvi, Tobit Raphael and Josh Gad. Shawn Levy is tapped to direct the comedy. It's been filming since June and is due in theaters on June 28, 2013.

"Total Recall" & "In Bruges"
While the remake of "Total Recall" may not be worth more than a Sunday afternoon viewing on basic cable, leading man Colin Farrell once again proves his worth as an under-rated leading man. The prime example of this untapped talent is 2008's "In Bruges." Though it had a limited release initially, the Martin McDonaugh crime film snagged an Oscar nomination for its screenplay and gathered a cult following with its video release. Farrell has the ability to add real human emotion to just about anything he does—as evident with his less than fleshed out "Total Recall" character—but "In Bruges" gave him the opportunity to work with sharp writer, resulting in a modern classic.

"Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days" & "Dog Day Afternoon"
Forget about the "Wimpy Kid" sequel. All you need to know about is Sidney Lumet's brilliant bank robbery-gone-wrong drama, "Dog Day Afternoon." In all likelihood, you've probably seen this story of a man driven to desperate measures in order to fund his lover's gender reassignment surgery. As we enter the dog days of summer, take a look back at the classic as a reminder of what Al Pacino used to do before "Jack & Jill."

"360" & "City of God"
Director Fernando Meirelles has lost his way a bit. The Brazillian director burst onto American movie radars with his Oscar nominated work on "City of God." He then followed it up with his English language debut, the superb "Constant Gardner." Since then, he has helmed two films, 2008's "Blindness" and "360," opening this week. Both films received unanimous pans, but "City of God" and "Constant Gardner" stand as two of the best films of the previous decade.

"The Babymakers" & "George Washington
Before staring in movies made by the Broken Lizard dudes, Paul Schneider acted in films made by his college buddy, director David Gordon Green. Their first feature film, "George Washington," remains a beautiful example of independent moviemaking. In the movie, things get terribly out of hand when a group of children come together to cover up an accidental tragedy.

When he's not busy representing his country at the Summer Olympics in London, diver Matthew Mitchum chills out in the – apparently very warm – Olympic Village with his ukulele. He's uploaded a video of himself crooning to his official YouTube channel, joining the U.S. swim team in its attempt to have a little viral fun with a Youtube cover of a pop hit. And what song is the 2008 gold medalist showcasing for all of his fans? Beyonce's "Single Ladies," of course.

Mitchum says he uploaded the clip "because someone on twitter asked me to upload a video of me playing the ukulele."

You can gripe that he didn't opt for a more current song, but at least he didn't toss his hat into the "Call Me Maybe" cover brigade. Also, it's pretty perfect and undeniably adorable!

"I profess to be neither a great instrumentalist nor singer, I'm just an Olympic diver who likes to strum away in his spare time," Mitchum wrote in the video's description. "I think this is where I am supposed to credit Beyonce or something."

All I'm sayin' is these guys may as well release hundred dollar bills instead of confetti at their concerts. A number of DJ's on the list are also all about giving back. Tiesto is a talented musician...and soccer player?? After the game, the DJs auctioned off their signed jerseys for RED, an organization dedicated to fighting AIDS in Africa.

Honestly, the only dance I know how to do to electronic music is fist pump. DJ Pauly D fist pumped his way to $11 million this year, but he doesn't always demand the big bucks. In January, Pauly D played at the Hilarity for Charity event in Los Angeles, raising over $300,000 for the Alzheimer's Association.

The only reasoning I can think of behind Deadmau5's name is that his "s" key was broken when he picked it. I attended Deadmau5' Hou5e of Blue5 charity concert this January (Rihanna, Calvin Harri5, and 5eba5tian Ingro550 were there too), and partying never felt 5o good. Not only becau5e I'm a huge Deadmau5 fan, but becau5e the event benefited the Lo5 Angele5 Children5 Ho5pital.

Avicii's House for Hunger tour donated $1,000,000 to hunger relief organization Feeding America. In a press release he said, "Hunger hits everywhere and the US is not immune to it. For me personally when I found out how big the hunger problem in United States actually was it was shocking."

Swedish House Mafia member Sebastian Ingrosso was at the Tiesto and Deadmau5 charity events listed above, but even more inspiring is his group's song "Save The World Tonight." When the chorus chimes in -- "Who's gonna saaaaave the woooooorld toniiiiight?!" -- it makes me wanna put my arms around a friend and yell, "I AM!" As big fans of British singer songwriter Lily Allen's quirky music sensibilities, we're anxiously awaiting the third album from the star. But alas, it appears that we will never have a new Lily Allen record … Because the pop star has now officially changed her name to Lily Rose Cooper.

Lily's announcement is not a big surprise. The 27-year-old married her long-time boyfriend Sam Cooper last year and has been using her married name as her Twitter handle for some time. The couple welcomed their first child in November.

Cooper's name change comes on the heels of news that she is reportedly pregnant with her second child. Luckily, it doesn't seem her pregnancy is stopping her from making new music.

"It's great to work at my own pace, with no commitments other than to make music," Cooper said in a statement on Thursday (August 2). "I'm excited to be heading back into the studio."

Allen famously semi-retired from the music scene in 2010 to focus on her family and clothing line, Lucy in Disguise. She never really walked away entirely, however: Allen wrote songs for the upcoming "Bridget Jones' Diary" musical that will premiere in London's iconic West End later this year.

The Coopers are reportedly expecting baby number two sometime around the holidays and hopefully we will have a new album from Lily to use as stocking stuffers as well.
