This past weekend at the box office made for plenty of giant-related puns to describe the weak opening of "Jack the Giant Slayer," and that's because with just a cursory glance at the numbers from the three major debuts, it's easy to see that things were fee-fi-fo-glum. sigh

The fairytale adventure from director Bryan Singer took in a $28 million after spending a reported $195 million to bring the beanstalk and giants to the big screen. The flop as already drawn unfavorable comparison's to last year's "John Carter," because that's the only kind of comparison one can make to "John Carter."

The week's two other debuts, "21 and Over" and "The Last Exorcism: Part II," also failed to land with audiences. The college party movie debuted to $9 million, while the horror sequel did $8 million.
