TLC has been popping up in the news lately, though it's for a sad reason: this week marks the tenth anniversary of member Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes' death in a car accident. While we send our thoughts to Left Eye's friends and family, we at MTV Act want to show the amazing and helpful things Left Eye did, along with her fellow bandmates T-Boz and Chilli.

+The Lisa Lopes Foundation

Left Eye visited Honduras and wanted to help out the poverty-stricken country. She was in the midst of starting up her org -- which would supply educational facilities and medical treatments -- when she died in 2002. But that wasn't the end of the Lisa Lopes Foundation, no siree. It's now up and running and this July the foundation's gonna have a Left Eye Music Fest in Decatur, Georgia.

+Safe Sex

Forget a pirate patch! Left Eye liked to wear a condom over her, well, left eye. This was an eye-catching fashion move (arrrgh, bad pun!), but it also held a purpose. Left Eye and her bandmates wanted to talk about safe sex and how important it is to use protection every time a person has sex. Just check out TLC's "Ain't 2 Proud 2 Beg" video to see this style in action.

+Self-Esteem Issues

In 1999, TLC tackled the issue of low self-esteem with their song and video "Unpretty." In the video, Chilli is pressured by her BF to get implants and a teen girl makes herself sick trying to get as thin as models in magazines. By the end of the video, Chilli has let all hell break loose on her boyfriend because of how he treated her, and the girl puts on a bathing suit and is happy with herself the way she is.

+HIV Treatment

In 2003, Chilli and T-Boz hooked up with Agouron Pharmaceuticals, Inc. for "Dialogues: Education and Treatment for a Well Planned Future." They wanted to teach people about getting tested for HIV, and the importance of seeing a doc right away for treatment. Talking to a medical professional sooner rather than later can make a world of difference, because there are ways to live a long, healthy life with HIV.

+Be the Match

Since she was a little girl, T-Boz has struggled with health issues because of her sickle cell anemia. Having to deal with so many hospital trips and doctor visits has given her a deep personal understanding of what it's like to be sick, and she wants to help others. That's why she got involved with Be the Match, an org that helps people with diseases like leukemia and lymphoma find marrow transplants.

We already knew that "A Good Day To Die Hard" is headed to Russia, but what we didn't realize is that it's almost exclusively set there.

MTV News recently caught up with Fox CEO Tom Rothman at CinemaCon to chat about the many films the studio has on its roster, and he confirmed that "Die Hard 5" is gearing up to start this week. Even though its setting will be a departure from the previous "Die Hard" movies, Rothman feels this one keeps in tone with the classic installments of the series.

"It's all set in Russia -- well, there's bookend scenes in New York," Rothman said. "But it's John McClaine goes to Russia and I think the technical term -- which I don't know if you can say on MTV, maybe you can -- is he f--ks everything up."

He might be, ahem, messing everything up, but there's one new character who's going to be there to bring it all back together. "A Good Day To Die Hard" introduces John "Jack" McClaine, the estranged son of Bruce Willis' character, and apparently the dynamic between the two of them is going to be a blast to watch on the big screen.

"The fun part about it though, 'A Good Day To Die Hard' -- and there's a great moment where he says, 'It's as good a day as any to die' -- but it's really a father/son story," Rothman said. "He thinks his kid is a screw up, but it's actually the opposite. The kid is more like the father than the father. Like all the best of the classic 'Die Hards,' it's very emotionally driven, and very kick ass."

"A Good Day To Die Hard" is scheduled to hit theaters on February 14, 2013.

When it comes to the gift of giving, Nelly Furtado knows what's up. Not only is she releasing a trio of music videos (that's right, THREE!) for her new single "Big Hoops (Bigger the Better)," she's also putting the spotlight on her favorite charity Free the Children, which is dedicated to empowering youth to volunteer.

This year, in addition to celebrating the hottest hits and artists of today, the Billboard Music Awards is asking the public to help Nelly, Justin Bieber, Jordin Sparks, and Usher earn $20,000 for the nonprofit closest to their heart. Only one of them can win, and it all comes down to how many votes they rake in from YOU, the fans. Plus, anyone who votes has a chance to win a trip to the 2012 Billboard Music Awards on May 20.

"Free the Children, they're all about children raising money for other children in other places," shared Nelly. "Some of their largest donations come from schools that are in at risk communities all over North America. So even these children are taking the time to fundraise for these communities that are worse off then them in other regions of the world." This week at the movies may be remembered by future generations as "the weekend before 'The Avengers' came out," but there are a few movies worth checking out this weekend, "Sound of My Voice" being the clear standout of the group. If you're looking for some movies to watch this weekend, we've got your playlist.

"The Raven" & "The Crow"
Perhaps before heading to the theater to learn about Edgar Allen Poe's favorite bird, you can check out a different gothic feathered friend. Director Alex Proyas made a name for himself as a visual stylist with this comic book adaptation. The story of a murdered rock star, who rises from the dead for revenge, is remembered most for being the movie where Brandon Lee died. (The commercial for the Blu-ray re-release grossly brags that it's Lee's "final tragic performance.") Lee's performance is definitely one worth seeking out, and it's fun to see what kind of work Proyas was doing before making movies with Will Smith and Nicolas Cage.

"The Five-Year Engagement" & "A Very Long Engagement"
A few years after director Jean-Pierre Jeuent and Audrey Tautou made the world say "Awwww" with "Amélie," they reteamed for "A Very Long Engagement," a much different look at that challenging time before getting hitched. Instead of the winters of Michigan, Tautou and her on-screen beau had to suffer through World War I. Kind of puts things into perspective, doesn't it? "A Very Long Engagement," like "Amélie," grabs onto you through Jeuent's stunning visuals but holds on with a story that you can't help but see through to the end.

"Safe" & "The Bank Job"
Jason Statham occupies a unique space within the realm of action movies. Like the pony-tailed master himself, Steven Seagal, Statham has carved out his own brand of action. "Safe," by all accounts fits comfortably in that genre of wise-ass-kicker movies. One Statham film that never got the recognition of a "Transporter" or a "Crank," "The Bank Job" stands out as a different kind of movie. Based on a true story, "The Bank Job" is your run of the mill British crime caper, but one with a lot more intelligence than is usually allowed in a Statham film. So if you're a fan of His Baldness, The Statham, a viewing of this overlooked gem is highly recommended.

"Sound of My Voice" & "Another Earth"
Brit Marling took two films to Sundance in 2011, and both straddle the line between indie and sci-fi in two distinct ways. Each takes a low-key, low budget approach to a rather high concept, be it a second identical planet floating in our sky or a young woman claiming to be from 2054. Marling has proven two things with these movies: (1) That her quiet brand of science fiction is some of the most intriguing being made today, and (2) As an actress, there are few others working today as entrancing to watch. The films tackle different emotional topics, but play off each other in a way that enriches both.

In her live performance of "Part of Me" on "American Idol" last night, Katy Perry debuted the U.S. government's new secret weapon: female soldiers in very short camo shorts. With these ladies on the front lines, our enemies will surely surrender with no shots fired. Okay, maybe not, but Katy did recently show us what it means to be a true American idol when she visited the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland.

During a performance at the Academy last week, Katy demonstrated just how much she appreciates the men and women who serve our country by offering one lucky sailor an on-stage kiss. (More or less awesome than receiving a purple heart??) She also displayed her knowledge of U.S. history by asking him to recreate this iconic 1945 photograph.

Katy is definitely into the military theme lately. In the video for her hit song "Part Of Me," she plays a butt kickin' female Marine. While shooting the video with actual Marines, Katy gained a newfound respect for our troops. "For three days I was a wannabe Marine, which was so difficult…I was sore and exhausted," she said. "I was educated on the people in the service, who I've always respected, but this time the respect goes above and beyond anything I could've imagined."

Katy isn't the only celeb' who's giving the troops some lovin'. Last year, both Mila Kunis and Justin Timberlake attended Marine Corps Balls after being asked out on YouTube. I'm not sure if either of their dates got as lucky as Katy Perry's sailor, but if anyone deserves a little more love, it's the people who so bravely serve our nation. They are true American idols.

Only one more week until the "Avengers" assemble in theaters! We've been ready to don a pair of Iron Man 3-D glasses since the announcement that a movie was in the works (and the announcement that Iron Man 3-D glasses were a real thing!).

But we've been able to compose our excitement as Marvel released tons of clips, posters and movie stills to tide us over until May 4. One of our favorite pre-released scenes is when Iron Man confronts Loki and reminds him exactly who he's up against. Actor Tom Hiddleston, who plays Thor's scorned brother, tweeted a picture of his script from that very scene and it features our favorite line, too! He wrote, "Here's a fun & familiar excerpt from my copy of Joss Whedon's #Avengers screenplay. #theyhaveahulk #s--- #notideal." It's easy to see why Hiddleston is turning into one of our favorite tweeters.

There is nothing more selfless and beautiful than motherhood. Beyoncé recently made motherhood even more beautiful by donating most of newborn daughter Blue Ivy's baby gifts to charity. Somewhere in the world, someone is pushing a brand new Rolls Royce stroller with 20-inch rims down the sidewalk! I kid, I kid.

In 2011, Beyoncé joined forces with First Lady Michelle Obama's "Let's Move" campaign to reduce childhood obesity. The First Lady of R&B remixed her popular song "Get Me Bodied" into a fitness video and routine for kids. Watch Beyoncé move, and whether you're a kid or not, I dare you not to move along! As part of the "Let's Move" campaign, Beyoncé also surprised the students of Harlem's PS 161 with a day of dance and exercise.

Beyoncé's song "Run The World (Girls)" is a female empowerment anthem, and many feminists' ring tone. For Oprah's farewell episode, Beyoncé performed the song with a posse of hot, scholarly dancers. Her performance reminded us of the importance of going pantless -- I mean, of going to school!

In 2011, Beyoncé recorded a cover of Lee Greenwood's "God Bless the USA" (available on iTunes) for charity. Proceeds go to the New York Police & Fire Widows' and Children's benefit fund, created to help families who lost loved ones on 9/11. "We were all affected by the tragedies of 9/11, and continue to keep the families who lost loved ones close to our hearts," Beyoncé said in a press release about track.

Following the devastating 2010 Haitian earthquake, Beyoncé performed her song "Halo" during the "Hope for Haiti" telethon. She even remixed the lyrics, singing, "You're everything I need and more, it's written all over your face/ Haiti, we can see your halo/ I pray you won't fade away."

In 2005, Beyoncé created The Survivor Foundation to help families get back on their feet after natural disasters. During her 2007 Beyoncé Experience Tour, B' offered concertgoers who donated a minimum of 3 non-perishable food items a seating upgrade. "Hunger affects every community in the United States. So I'm using my Tour and Survivor Foundation to bring attention to domestic hunger," she said in a press release about the food drive.

In the same press release, Beyoncé showed us exactly why she is People's  "Most Beautiful Woman," inside and out.  "I want my fans to experience more than my music…I want them to experience the joy of making a difference by helping someone else."

"The Five-Year Engagement" is not your typical romantic comedy. It has conflict built right into the title, instead of using a Nancy Meyers-esque turn of phrase. The writers behind "Forgetting Sarah Marshall," Jason Segel and Nicholas Stoller, have reteamed to reflect on what comes after popping the questions, and Segel and Emily Blunt lead a hilarious cast that includes appropriately ridiculous turns from Chris Pratt of "Parks and Recreation" and Alison Brie of "Community" and "Mad Men" fame.

Despite a bloated running time, "The Five-Year Engagement" packs so many laughs and so much heart that even its biggest problems are easy to overlook.

Here are our five reasons to see "The Five-Year Engagement."

The Opening
During the first few minutes of the film, we see through flash-back how Tom and Violet first met. It perfectly sets up the film and has you rooting for this couple, who you know will go through hell, from the very first beat. Even as the film runs longer than it needs to, a quick glimpse back to that cute first meeting, and it's easy to forget you were fidgeting in your seat a few minutes ago. "The Five-Year Engagement" works perfectly well, despite its flaws, because of how genuinely likeable the characters are, a quality that lesser romantic comedies can bypass completely.

The Leads
A lot of the credit for Tom and Violet's likeability belongs to the stars, Jason Segel and Emily Blunt. Segel has a quality that automatically puts the audience on his side. Director Nicholas Stoller attributed it to his "sad eyes," but it's also Segel's self-deprecating nature and how he usually portrays characters who are nice, which is a rarer quality in movies than you might think. Blunt has a real breakthrough here, since many of her turns have cast her as cold. In this film, she displays warmth and humor that goes beyond fart jokes and pratfalls.

It's Real
Tom and Violet's relationship takes on a different course than your average romantic comedy. The height of the engagement comes in its infancy, and everything just gets worse from there, like arrow in the leg, bad. Granted that isn't the most realistic portrayal of a relationship gone south, "The Five-Year Engagement" is at times painfully observant and even the most ridiculous joke has its roots in a harsh reality.

The Ending
Just when you've started to think that the whole affair has gone on for too long, the final few scenes of the film rescue it. The sequence handles the demands of a romantic comedy in a way that is refreshing and one that feels true to the spirit of the movie and never forced. It may even have you tearing up.

Heart
And that's because, if nothing else, "The Five-Year Engagement" has real heart. Stoller and Segel have written a worthy heir to their first collaboration, "Forgetting Sarah Marshall," and a romantic comedy that refuses to fall prey to the usual failings of the genre. Segel and Blunt bring to life two people we're happy to spend two hours with, characters that have us laughing even if we're a little freaked out by resemblances to our own lives. At its best, "The Five-Year Engagement" is a comedy full of great belly laughs that begs the question, "Why aren't all romantic comedies this good?"

"The Apocalypse" is likely to have plenty of celebrity cameos, but there's one in particular who James Franco has his sights set on: Rihanna.

During an interview at CinemaCon, Franco let it slip that there might be a role for her in the upcoming post apocalyptic flick. (Based on what we know of the planned celebrity cameos, perhaps that means she's going to be playing herself as a corpse?) No matter the size of her role, Franco seems genuinely excited about Rihanna's inclusion in the film.

"I think she's going to be in the new movie I'm doing, Seth Rogen's directorial debut," he teased. "I think she's getting a little part in that."

The main cast of "The Apocalypse"—formerly titled "Jay and Seth vs. The Apocalypse"—includes Rogen, Franco, Jay Baruchel, Jonah Hill, Danny McBride and Craig Robinson. It's going to be an expansion of the short film Baruchel and Rogen made several years back, and the plan is to include as many cameos as they can get. Unfortunately, one of the celebrities who probably won't be a part of the film is Daniel Radcliffe.

"It doesn't look like he's willing to push things as far as we [are]," Rogen said in a recent interview with MTV News.

Even if they can't get a "Harry Potter" star, it's clear that Rogen, Franco and the whole gang are going to have plenty of Los Angeles celebs to play with, Rihanna included, if casting pans out.

There are extremely few artists in the music industry that can be considered living legends at the spry young age of only 36, but Jack White has easily earned such distinction with his guitar prowess and impressive catalog of music with the White Stripes, the Raconteurs, the Dead Weather and now his own solo career.

White's solo debut, Blunderbuss, came out earlier this week and is positioned to take the #1 spot on the Billboard charts when the numbers are tallied next week. Clearly, the public is a fan of White's first offering out on his own, but what have the critics got to say about the album? We rounded up some major reviews of the disc and it appears that White has (unsurprisingly) won the hearts of critics as well. (Billboard and Rolling Stone basically consider it a modern classic.)

It's prom season! The outfits you wear is a big part of that night, but the truth is that getting ready for prom can be pretty damn expensive. Have you seen how much some of those glitzy dresses cost? Not everyone has money to spare to get dressed up the way they'd like to, but Hayden Panettiere is teaming up with DoSomething.org to make some epic nights happen, with the Prom For All campaign.

Hayden is donating some pretty dresses she doesn't need anymore (kinda like Victoria Justice donating her 2010 VMAs dress to one lucky prom girl through Donate My Dress.) And Hayden may have been part of the shenanigans on a recent episode of "Punk'd" she hosted, but she's all serious here about wanting to help. 'Course, no matter how many cool movies and TV shows she's been in, our heroic actress isn't going to have enough dresses for everyone who needs one.

That's where you come in. Do you have a lightly worn dress that would be perf for prom? You can donate your clothes (by June 22), but that's not all. You might also be able to win awards, like riding in a limo or getting yourself an awesome $2,000 scholarship. Now that's a night to remember!

When you think boy bands, what comes to mind? Screams, crazy crowds of teens, more screams, fainting, more screaming, and crazy good looks. MTV News' Battle Of The Boy Bands, which launched Monday with an array of bands from all generations, is down to 16 finalists. Just like in real life, One Direction and The Wanted are in; *NSYNC and Backstreet Boys are out. (But how?!) Here at MTV Act, we have veryyyy carefully put together our ultimate boy band. Said band is made up of boy band members who have not only made a tremendous impact in music history but also on the world.

Ready to here our 5 choices? *In Ryan Seacrest voice...* Dim the lights, here we go.

Introducing... MTV Act's ULTIMATE BOY BAND!

Let's begin with Justin Timberlake, the heartthrob, the Mickey Mouse Club-in', the cornrowed-out lead singer from the highly successful 90's band *NSYNC. Timberlake has made a tremendous impact in music even past his boy band years. More than that, though, JT is a charity pioneer who every year since 2008 hosts an annual golf fundraising event for Shriner's Hospital for Children raising millions! That alone = ultimate.

Next up, we have chosen Joe Jonas! 1/3 of the Jonas Brothers and icon of 13 year old's all over the world. When he isn't "Burnin' Up" the charts with his catchy tunes, the 22 year-old singer is giving back. From the It Gets Better campaign to the Ryan Seacrest Foundation, and even his collaboration with his Bros on their Change For The Children Foundation, this boybander definitely gots the voice, look AND heart.

Remember the Latin boy band Menudo? It's where Ricky Martin first started to shake his bon-bon and rose to fame! From platinum records to personal triumph, the former Menudo boy bander is one passionate, charitable, and giving guy. With The Ricky Martin Foundation, he is on a mission to help kids globally. From ending sex trafficking to providing healthcare, the impact he has worldwide is impressive!

A B C , Its easy as, 1 2 3 , as simple as, do re mi…. yep, you guessed it! Our fourth choice is the King of Pop, Michael Jackson! Do I even need to explain his impact? This icon/legend/everything who is missed tremendously has forever changed the path of music. Not only is his music timeless, the positive impact he has on our world will be forever remembered. The amount of charity work he did is simply mind blowing, from shining a light on Africa to urging us all to take care of our Earth, Michael was a game-changer.

John Lennon is our last choice, but certainly not least. The Beatles are iconic, and still to this day their music lives on. John Lennon was a long time advocate for the peace movement as well as an avid supporter of UNICEF. The "Imagine" singer's efforts live on to this day, too, as his wife Yoko Ono and the entertainment industry as a whole use this message, approach to world issues, and even his music to continue to make a difference.

If you can think of better combinations than Crispin Glover and chicken wings, you're a harder thinker than we are. The "Back to the Future" and "Willard" actor has perfected the ways of weird and wacky on the screen for decades now, and he's showing no signs of slowing down. For his latest trick, Glover appeared as a guest on NextMovie's Chicken Wing Chat to discuss his work in the upcoming movie "Freaky Deaky." You'll get a whole lot more than that when you sink your teeth into some chicken with Glover in the video below.
