Lovers of texts and everything digital, it's no surprise teens use their phones for everything these days. But if they want to reach out for help via text message, will anyone answer? DoSomething.org hopes Crisis Text Line is the answer.
Although J.C. Penney has reported losses recently, that doesn't mean the business is losing its heart. Each month, J.C. Penney asks customers to round up their purchases to the next dollar at the register on behalf of a particular charitable organization. Right now there's a month-long partnership between JCP and CTL. This means you can help prepare the CTL for its launch on August 1, 2013, just by going to the store or shopping online. The text line is aimed at helping teens with issues ranging from eating disorders and bullying to feeling lonely and misunderstood.
But why text messages, you ask? DoSomething has been engaging with its audience through text messages and has produced increasingly amazing results. Sure, they could point the teens in the direction of online resources, but why not meet them where they are? A teen anywhere, anytime, texts the number and a trained counselor will respond in 14 minutes. As the video below suggests, "imagine help 24/7 for free at your fingertips."

What are you going to buy at J.C. Penney this month to help CTL bring its round-the-clock help to teens? Just remember, it doesn't matter how big the purchase; all the counts is you round up at the register!
You can keep track of the money raised for CTL as the site's live counter records it. To stay up-to-date on what's going on with CTL, follow the organization on Twitter.
