The month of October is almost upon us, and you know what that means. Another low-budget thrill ride from the "Paranormal Activity" series must be around the corner. For the past four years, we've barely survived found footage encounters with a demon named Toby, but this October will be more trick than treat.
That's because "Paranormal Activity 5" won't be hitting theaters until next October. So what the hell is going on?
First of all, calm down and don't curse. You're not going to have to wait that long to get your fix of first-person demonic terror. "Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones" is hitting theaters on January 3, 2014, and it's spin-off of the current series. That movie was made to cash in on the large Latino demographic that the previous installments have drawn with a more Catholic-themed story of horror.
There isn't too much more that we know about "The Marked One," besides that Christopher Landon, the writer of "Paranormal 2, 3 and 4," is directing and that the footage after the credits of "Paranormal Activity 4" was meant as a teaser.
Beyond that there will be a "Paranormal Activity 5," which will in theory pick the story of Toby back up to see what the deal is with all of those witches.
The October 2014 isn't exactly news, but the complicated nature of the series' future merits some clarification. Black List pair Jason Pagan and Andrew Stark, who wrote next year's time travel found footage movie "Almanac," have been hired to write the screenplay, so expect to hear more details about that movie (i.e. casting, director choice) sometime next year.
