+ Watch Christina Aguilera Open Up About Her Trip To Rwanda
This past June, Aguilera visited Kigali, Rwanda, on a hunger relief mission on behalf of the World Food Programme and Yum! Brands, which she is a global spokesperson for. During her trip she saw first hand the poverty and plight others face around the world.
The "Genie In A Bottle" babe opened up to People Magazine about her recent trip, "This trip came at a time when I really needed to step away and connect with bigger issues in the world, [and] this trip really touched me in a way I never felt before. The people of Rwanda touched me in a way I cannot express or put into words. They are in a place that needs our help and I am so proud of the work that we are doing there."
Rwanda is a beautiful country located in Central Africa, and sadly still recovering from a brutal genocide that took place in 1994. During this horrific time, more than 800,000 were murdered to death. From that time forward, struggle has ensued throughout Rwanda, which Aguilera witnessed first hand as she met with refugees. She revealed, "As a mom, to know that there are kids that go to bed hungry is just not acceptable. Food is a human right in my mind and knowing that I can help means so much. In Rwanda, we visited a school. The kids walk approximately two miles to get there, not only to learn but for many this is their only meal of the day."
Although the facts are quite gloomy, there is so much we can do to help the people of Rwanda. Charity:Water is doing such fab-u-lous work in Rwanda, and by researching their organization you are on the right track. Did you know 31% of the people of Rwanda lack access to clean water?
