Cassidy Lynn Campbell, of Huntington Beach, California, is a transgender teen who has lived as a woman for the past three years. Now she's also living out many young women's dreams: being nominated for homecoming queen.Cassidy was recently selected as one of the top 10 homecoming queen finalists at Huntington's Marina High School. Yet her excitement isn't so much about winning a sash and crown as it is about bringing the transgender community into the conversation about gay rights. "Gay people have been brought into the limelight and it's a very touched-on subject," Campbell said. "It's much more talked about than transgender is."
After years of feeling like a woman trapped in a man's body, Cassidy -- born Lance -- grew comfortable enough to express her inner self outwardly. She now runs a popular YouTube channel, providing makeup tips and advice to other transgender teens...and straight women like me who don't know a thing about beauty products. Although her peers have grown more accepting over the years, Cassidy's transformation didn't come easy. She was bullied both on and offline, and continues to field comments from other, less open-minded individuals. Haters gon' hate, but let's be real: they're probably just jealous of Cassidy's perfect eyeshadow. Congrats, GIRL! You're already a star in our eyes!
