On tonight's moving episode of "Catfish," we meet Aaliyah, a young lady whose girlfriend lives mere blocks away. But as you may have guessed, they've never met in real life! Something smells verrrrry (cat)fishy!
After a stellar Internet sleuthing sesh (Nev and Max are so the modern day Sherlock and Watson), the question soon becomes not whether Aaliyah's online girlfriend Alicia is who she says she is, but if she really feels the way she says she feels. The boys discover a string of past relationships, all with men, and it grows increasingly obvious that Alicia may not be reciprocating the feelings Aaliyah has for her.
It soon becomes clear that Alicia is not ready or willing to be in a public relationship with another woman. Coming out is a process that starts from within, and if someone's not ready, there is little friends, family, or significant others can do to speed up the process. If someone you know is struggling, it is important to remain supportive without being pushy. Aaliyah set a perfect example for how others should act when faced with a similar circumstance. "Pray for her, that's what I'm gonna do," she told Nev on the drive home. 'Atta girl, Aaliyah! Props for your positivity!
