Demi Lovato has been open about her mental and emotional health struggles because she wants other young people to know they're not alone and there is light at the end of the tunnel. She's changed the lives of many Lovatics, and now she's been officially honored by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.
The "Heart Attack" singer Tweeted:
Honored to receive an award from @sebelius + appear w/5 brave ppl sharing their resilience stories: 1.usa.gov/gm15gh #HeroesofHope

Yesterday was the 8th Annual National Children's Mental Health Awareness Day and @Sebelius refers to U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, who gave Demi her award. Demi was honored because of her tireless work to better the mental and emotional health of young people.
And this is a real issue. Just within the last year about 30% of young adults have dealt with some sort of mental health condition. Mental health conditions vary widely, but Demi's stepping up to take the stigma away and bring some understanding and support.
"What I experienced may not be exactly what you experience," she said, "but for every young adult out there who feels scared, or sad, or out of control, who feels like their mental health diagnosis means they're unworthy, I want to let you know you are [worthy], that your life has meaning."
