We're big fans of Music is Medicine founder and CEO Leora Friedman, and it turns out we're not the only ones! As part of the "Random Acts of mtvU" series, "Glee" star Darren Criss surprised the Princeton student by dropping by to ask her to be his date to the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards in August.

Through Music is Medicine, Friedman created the Donate a Song program, where she pairs a singer with a pediatric patient. The program has already attracted the likes of Drew Seeley, who wrote "Fly" for Brooke Shockley, and Savannah Outen, who penned "Brave & True" for Bo Oliver. The songs are available for purchase on iTunes, and all the proceeds will directly benefit pediatric oncology research at the Johns Hopkins Medical Center.

So what did Criss have to say about Friedman's work? He said Music is Medicine is "really a great example of being able to bring a lot of joy to really tough situations and it helps these kids get through so difficult things, so she's pretty cool." We have to agree with Darren. We think Leora is pretty awesome ourselves!

The pair will walk the red carpet together and raise awareness for Music is Medicine and the work the organization is doing. mtvU is also giving Leora a $1,000 grant for the organization! Friedman was completely surprised when the "Glee" star showed up with the good news; you can see her reaction to the news in the video.
