At the "Star Trek Into Darkness" premiere in London, MTV News' Josh Horowitz caught up with one of the film's writers, Damon Lindelof, to discuss the future of the series and director J.J. Abrams' next gig, helming "Star Wars: Episode VII."

Though he said he was no doubt thrilled that his "LOST" co-creator would get a chance to director a "Star Wars" movie, there was a part of Lindelof that was disappointed. "I was thrilled, obviously, as a 'Star Wars' fanatic, that it was going to be in great hands and a little bit sad that he was going to be leaving 'Star Trek,' but he's still going to produce the next one," Lindelof said. "We will make the very best of it, I'm sure."

Lindelof seemed to imply that Abrams would not direct a third "Star Trek" movie, the seeds of which, according to co-writer, have been sown in "Into Darkness."

"We wanted it to have a beginning, middle and end, and a self-containedness, but at the same time, start setting up where it could possibly go," Lindelof said. "Hopefully, if you see this movie, you get a sense not just in terms of the relationships and characters, but some unsettled business that needs to be resolved in the future."

"Star Trek Into Darkness" opens on May 17.
