Sure, it's only 41 seconds long, but there is just something so right about the first clip from Andrew Dominik's "Killing Them Softly" (née "Cogan's Trade").
The Brad Pitt-led crime film is set to make its world premiere at Cannes later this month, but a brief clip posted to YouTube gives us a first look at one of our most anticipated movies of the year.
In the clip, which is made up of one extended take, Sam Shepard's character questions Ray Liotta about the recent stick-up during a mob card game. The shot reeks of Dominik's unique style and is predictably awesome.

In "Killing Them Softly," Brad Pitt plays Jackie Cogan, a mob enforcer hired to investigate the card game stick-up. The clip above seems to be one part of the investigation.
This will be Dominik's first film since 2007's "The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford," which is a modern classic. "Killing Them Softly" reunites part of the James Gang with Pitt, Shepard, and Garrett Dillahunt coming back to work with Dominik.
Seriously, if you haven't watched "The Assassination of Jesse James," set aside three hours, turn the lights off and watch a great film. This clip succinctly explains why Dominik is a filmmaker to watch and admire. Instead of following Shepard into the trailer like most other movies would, Dominik stays outside and lets your imagination do most of the heavy lifting. He handles familiar material in fun and interesting ways.
