MTV News traveled to the New Orleans set of "Beautiful Creatures," the upcoming YA adaptation, and witnessed some strange occurrences while we were there.
"Beautiful Creatures" tells the story of Lena, a girl who has had some trouble in school recently. Like many high school students, Lena's been the target of some mean-spirited bullies, but unlike most high school students, she is also a caster. (That's "Beautiful Creatures" talk for witch.)

The young stars of "Beautiful Creatures," Alice Englert, Alden Ehrenreich and Thomas Mann, lead a cast that also includes A-listers like Viola Davis, Emma Thompson and Jeremy Irons.
On the set, Englert, who stars as Lena, described the overall story of "Beautiful Creatures" in broad strokes, saying the film is about "humanity, good and evil, supernatural things." But even with Lena's special abilities, Englert said she doesn't see Lena as all that different from your average high school student. "I think Lena is like most girls, when you feel massively insecure," she said.
During the visit to the set, the cast and crew were working on one scene in particular that involved a little movie magic. After Lena suffers through some bullying at the hands of some classmates, in Englert's word, things get "out of control." The windows, which took up one wall of the set, exploded into the classroom, an effect that caught one cast member off guard.
"I forgot that we were shooting, and I just stood there, like, [drops jaw], my eyes crossed. It's going to look so ridiculous," Zoey Deutch said. "It's really fun. It was insane. It was so loud. I really thought there was an earthquake."
