Con Quién Andas. It means, in Spanish, "with whom you walk." As you know, the company we keep -- or the people with whom we walk -- can completely shape a person's high school experience. One NYU student is bringing a day in the life of this complicated, identity-shaping time to the screen ... with a little Kickstart from his friends ... and you.
Justin Bonilla is a senior at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts, an educational launch pad for such creative minds as James Franco, Andy Samberg, Angelina Jolie and one Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, aka (of course) Lady Gaga. For his senior thesis, he plans to create a short film personifying the self-searching teenage years that influence who we become as adults. Bonilla writes:
"The story follows Hispanic 15-year-old Hayden DeJesus as her secret relationship with a girl clashes with an old friendship during one decisive day in high school. In this slice of life, we watch through the eyes of adolescence how a girl learns of the difficulty and consequences that arise from embracing one's identity. ... [T]here comes a point when we take our own actions, go against the norm, and dance to our own drummer. This is the point in which the film takes place."
The catch? He needs a few bucks to bring his vision to life. Even if we can't personally give, we sure can spread the word to help inch him toward his goal. It's another example of how Kickstarter is helping young people realize their creative visions with strong messaging and social significance. Check out the trailer below; if you like what you see, then do what you can in the next 48 hours to boost Justin Bonilla's project into high gear. Have a dream project that needs a nudge, too?
