Getting your first job after high school or college can be scary, and doubly so in this job environment. The current unemployment rate is at 8.2 percent and a recent report found that the employment rate for young people is the lowest it's been in sixty years! But before you panic (and, please, don't panic) take a look at 22-year-old Bennett Olson's clever way to get a job.
See, sometimes you've just got to be creative. Last month Bennett paid to have himself advertised on an electric billboard sign. There was a picture of him, the words "Hire Me!" and his website. For $300, he got to be part of a revolving series of ads, flashing big in the sky for eight seconds at a time. That may not sound like much, but, hey, it worked!
Bennett said he received a lot of attention, and this led to interviews and then getting hired at Laser Design & GKS Services.
Jobs, jobs, jobs -- when it's an election year and the country's unemployment remains an issue, you better believe you're going to be hearing a lot about jobs. But if Bennett's story is any indication, things are looking up -- you might just have to think outside the box. But if a billboard isn't your thing, maybe recruiting Stephen Colbert to help is?
