Selena Gomez has had a lot of reasons to celebrate lately. The singer just turned 21. Her song "Come and Get It" became her first single to reach the number one spot on the Billboard charts. And now Selena has another reason to celebrate: she made The Hollywood Reporters' Philanthropy Issue for her work with Ryan Seacrest's foundation.
Each year The Hollywood Reporter names the most generous stars in Hollywood, and this year Selena and Ryan are in some seriously good company, which includes President Bill Clinton, Matt Bomer, and Sean Penn. For the two Hollywood heavyweights, however, the spotlight isn't on them at all; the real reason they're in the limelight is for their work with the Ryan Seacrest Foundation, which works to inspire today's youth through entertainment and education-focused initiatives. As Seacrest explains, he would hear that parents of sick children in hospitals say that their kids "ran out of things to do," so Ryan "tried to think of what we could do to create more activities in the hospital that didn't leave anyone out."
Since Ryan started his foundation in 2010, a number of big-name celebs have been attached as supporters. Miley Cyrus, Taylor Lautner, and Lady Gaga are just a few of the names who have dedicated time to giving back with the Ryan Seacrest Foundation. When it came time to choose a celebrity ambassador, however, Seacrest knew Selena, who is also a UNICEF Ambassador, would be a perfect fit.
As an ambassador, Selena has had the opportunity to visit children's hospitals like the one she visited in her hometown of Dallas late last year. She said she was most struck by how "happy the kids seemed." She praises Ryan for making "the experience so uplifting and encouraging, even though the kids are going through such a difficult time."
