Stars from "True Blood" and "Vampire Diaries" were out in hoards at last weekend's Comic-Con. Both shows are about far more than just blood-suckers and shape-shifters. They tastefully explore love of all kinds -- interracial, inter-sexual, and…erm…inter-species. Hey! Who says vampires can't fall in love with werewolves?!
+ True Blood Explores LGBTQ Relationships
"True Blood" has had many LGBTQ characters and themes in its six seasons of existence, from a gay waiter, to a bisexual queen, to shape-shifter Sam's sexy man-on-man fantasies about vampire Bill. The show does a fantastic job of portraying the entire spectrum of sexuality, and doesn't write its most "macho" male characters out of the mix…which I don't mind at all, because the only thing hotter than one handsome shirtless actor on my T.V. screen is two handsome shirtless actors on my T.V. screen. "True Blood" won a GLAAD media award back in 2011, and it's leading lady, Anna Paquin – who is married to leading man Stephen Moyer -- is an out bisexual. "I'm sure for some people saying they're bisexual feels less scary than making a statement that they're gay," she told Zooey magazine. "For me, it's not really an issue because I'm someone who believes being bisexual is actually a thing. It's not made up. It's not a lack of decision. It's not being greedy or numerous other ignorant things I've heard at this point.
+ "Vampire Diaries" Explores Multiracial Relationships
As a mixed girl myself, I love nothing more than television shows with diverse casts and relationships. "Vampire Diaries" employs a great cast of actors and actresses, without stereotyping any particular race. Not only that, but hottie Jeremy Gilbert is all about the cross-cultural lovin', having dated the African American Bonnie and Asian American Anna. Do you know that, until June 12, 1967, interracial marriage was technically still illegal in the United States?! In other words, some of VD's centuries-old vamps had to wait a looooong time to get hitched!
