A few months ago we declared 2013 the year of HEAVY AND LIGHT.  A lot has happened over the last seven months or so, but for non-profit organization To Write Love On Her Arms (TWLOHA) the main work of the year, putting on a 17 city tour, is already over. Thanks to a new mini documentary, you can experience a night of HEAVY AND LIGHT just by turning on your computer.

When we interviewed founder Jamie Tworkowski at the tour's stop in Houston, he lamented the fact that it just wasn't possible to hit every city they wanted to this year. Thanks to Altar TV, Tworkowski's vision of bringing a night of "songs, conversations and hope" to more people is finally a reality. The team at Altar TV attended the tour's Philadelphia stop where they filmed interviews and performances. Although the documentary doesn't feature every moment, it really does capture the feel of the night.

For those who don't know, TWLOHA works to remove the stigma of suffering for those dealing with issues of addiction, depression, self-injury, and suicide. In the 25 minute video, the performers share their thoughts on why HEAVY AND LIGHT makes it possible to bring people together to have tough, honest conversations. Will Anderson of Parachute acknowledged that "there's a lot of worth in music by itself, but when paired with something else, it's the most powerful thing." The artists behind Now, Now agreed saying that the night is "less of a show and more of an experience."

TWLOHA has been around for seven years now, and Tworkowski has served as the organization's leader the entire time. So why does he think the work they're doing is still important? As he explains, the team gets to "meet people who say they're still alive because of it (TWLOHA). It's hard to imagine a better thing to hear."
