Probably one of the best things about Baz Luhrmann's "The Great Gatsby," aside from the performances, was how the director brought his own spin to the Jazz Age and placed Leonardo DiCaprio, Carey Mulligan, and Tobey Maguire right in the heart of it.
You don't have to be a special effects wizard to know that more than a few tricks were used to bring the world of 1920s East and West Egg to life, but you may not be aware of how extensive the use of CGI was.

The clip reel alternates between raw footage, shot on the set with the actors, and the final product, which has gone through extensive rebuilding with special effects and some color correction.
While it's impressive to see how some of the movie's more spectacular shots looked when Leo and Carey were walking around the set, even cooler are the scenes that didn't look like they had work done to them, the ones that looked so believable on screen that we didn't even question them.
