Demi Lovato's biological dad recently passed away, and now she's doing what she can to turn tragedy into opportunity. Because both she and her dad know what it's like to struggle with addiction and mental health issues, Demi has created The Lovato Treatment Scholarship.
Demi Tweeted:
I believe that everything happens for a reason and I want some good to come out of my father's passing...
— demetria lovato (@ddlovato) June 27, 2013
And continued:
So I am launching the Lovato Treatment Scholarship Program to help pay for treatment expenses at Cast Recovery for someone who needs help

The scholarship specifically goes to help those who need treatment in the addiction or mental health areas. Because let's face it: treatment centers can cost $$$$. The scholarship acknowledges it can't help everyone, but it does ask that you contact them if you think you might be a good candidate. If you or someone you know is interested, you'll want to email lovatoscholarship@castrecovery.com and talk about your situation. Demi explained it this way:
Tell me your story. Go to http://t.co/Rla5q6p4uW and click on programs

If you don't make the cut for the scholarship, but would still like help, Cast Recovery suggests Treatment 4 Addiction. MTV Act can also recommend Half of Us as a starting place for tips and resources on mental health issues, addiction and more. Demi's staying strong through her deep personal loss, and she's lending a hand to help others stay strong, too.
