#DOMA, #PROP8 and #LoveIsLove weren't the only things recently trending on Twitter — #StandwithWendy also got big as women's rights activists everywhere got a new shero in Texas State Senator Wendy Davis. Elizabeth Banks, among countless others, was singing her praises.

The state of Texas was attempting to pass a anti-abortion bill designed to pretty much close down women's health centers in the state and make it harder for women to exercise their reproductive rights. Davis was not standing for this, but she literally stood in order to kill the bill. In order to filibuster the women's-rights-restricting bill, she stood for about thirteen hours without bathroom breaks, eating or drinking. She wasn't even allowed to lean against anything. All of this was being livestreamed and became the must-see of the night. #StandwithWendy was trending like crazy, not to mention all the cool memes coming out!
At 10:00 p.m., Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst told Davis she had strayed from the topic on-hand by talking about mandatory ultrasound testing. People began chanting "Let her speak" and then "Let Her Speak" memes went viral. State Senator Leticia Van de Putte tried to speak, got ignored, and then stood up to say, "At what point must a female Senator raise her hand or her voice to be recognized over her male colleagues in the room?" At which point that great line went viral, too!
Thanks to the efforts of Davis and women's rights activists, the bill was declared dead. Texas Governor Rick Perry is trying to revive the legislation, but Davis said, "Women and men across Texas are in an uproar about it. I don't expect that their concerns on this issue are going to go away with the passage of this law and I think there will be political consequences in the future as people exercise their opinion about this issue at the ballot box."
You can see why Elizabeth Banks loves her! And we hope you do too!
