Nev Schulman of "Catfish" knows all too well that people will make things up on the internet, but this video he made is 100% facts of life. Student loan interest rates are poised to double, and, unfortunately, I ain't catfishing you!
Higher education can be expensive, but listen to Nev explain how these student loan interest rates can seriously empty your pockets:
These days the average student finishes college owing more than $26,000. If graduates are struggling just to pay their debts off, how can they get on their own two feet and afford other important things? Like, you know, shelter and food? But the interest rate for student loans is set to go from 3.4% to 6.8% this coming Monday, and, as Nev points out, that will seriously screw about 7 million young people.
That's enough to send any college student or soon-to-be-college-student into a panic. A lot of people are unhappy about the possibility of loans going up, so Nev invites you to join your voice with them. You can sign Our Time's petition to President Barack Obama, Speaker John Boehner, and Leader Harry Reid. All you have to do is plug in your email addy. Really. Simple as that, and it might save you thousands of dollars. You can also email, Tweet or use Facebook to let Congress know you're serious about this issue. Let's get #DontDoubleMyRate trending! "Catfish" shows how hearts can be won or broken online, but this petition from Our Time allows you to really make a difference for your future.
