The team at RAINN, the Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network, had their work cut out for them last week. It all started when crowdfunding platform Kickstarter hosted and funded a "seduction guide" that was more of a "How-To" manual on how to commit sexual assault. After a huge backlash, Kickstarter admitted its mistake and made a $25,000 donation to the anti-sexual violence organization.
To take the momentum from last week's events to raise awareness and educate the public about the realities of sexual assault, RAINN is launching a campaign on another crowdfunding site, Indiegogo. RAINN spokesperson Kate Hull says the campaign is focused on putting energy "towards survivors" and turning "outrage into action." The RAINN team hopes the campaign, which launches today, proves there are more people who want to fight sexual violence than those who advocate for it.
The funds raised from the Indiegogo campaign will be put toward the National Sexual Assault Online Hotline, which provides "live, secure, anonymous crisis support for victims of sexual violence, their friends, and families over RAINN's website." The hotline is free to use and is available 24/7, which means survivors can find help online anytime they need it.
Even if you don't have money to donate to the campaign, you can still help spread the word on your social media channels. For more ways on how you can take action against sexual violence, check out action links below.
