As summertime begins, Selena Gomez, Adam Levine, Britney Spears, Pitbull and many other well-known artists are kicking off Summer of Hope -- a first-of-its-kind social media campaign to raise funds for cancer, diabetes, and HIV/AIDS research.
Summer of Hope is an initiative of City of Hope -- a nonprofit clinical research center that has been fighting some of the world's most deadly diseases for over a century. "This summer, bring hope to those who need it," Selena Tweeted last Friday, which also happened to be the first day of summer. "Join me & help @cityofhope fight cancer. Donate here http://bit.ly/19otUCH #SUMMEROFHOPE." Over the course of the campaign, participating artists could reach hundreds of millions of people on Twitter alone.
Leading the movement is Rob Light, the head of music at Creative Artists Agency and this year's recipient of the Spirit of Life award from City of Hope's Music and Entertainment Industry group. "Like the music industry, City of Hope touches lives worldwide, bringing hope and encouragement to individuals and their families," said Light. "To unite these two forces for such a powerful need is exciting, and I am proud to be a part of that."
To join the campaign, Tweet about it using the hash tag #SummerofHope, or donate to help raise funds for lifesaving cancer, diabetes, and HIV/AIDS research. Those who donate $25 or more will receive the Songs of Summer album, a compilation of summer jams by The Beach Boys, Michael Jackson, and many others. Follow the Action Links below to learn more!
