Got fifty cents to spare? If you do, VMA nominated Katy Perry and her record company, Capitol Records, know a way you can use it to help keep children healthy for a year.
Capitol Records first put out this Tweet, and then Katy Retweeted it:
Join us in ending 7 diseases by 2020! Follow @end_7 today and find out how to make it all possible here: smarturl.it/End7 #end7
— Capitol Records (@CapitolRecords) July 31, 2012
END7 wants to totally eradicate seven neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) by the year 2020. They have the medicine, so it's not as if we're holding out for a cure or anything. It's just a matter of getting the medicine to the people who need it. Almost one in six people is suffering from NTDs, and about half a billion of them are kids. NTDs are transmitted through things like insect bites and worms, and it's typically the poorest in developing countries that have the most problems just because they might not have the funds or access to get better.
And, believe it or not, fifty cents from you can protect a kid from these seven diseases for a whole year. The link in Katy's Retweet will send you over to a YouTube vid just under two minutes long that will give you the general deets on ending several diseases -- it's possible! You can watch it below.
More info can be found at the END7 official site and their Facebook page. What's especially inspiring about this case of charity work is the fact you actually can make a diff and know it. It's not like we don't know how to cure these diseases. And Katy Perry would like to be wide awake in a world where so many people aren't suffering.
