We don't normally think of choosing where to eat as being a political move, but with the controversy going on now with the restaurant chain Chick-fil-A, some people are saying that where you eat or don't eat shows your beliefs.
Dan Cathy, the president of Chick-fil-A, recently came under fire for comments he made against same-sex marriage, including the following: "I think we are inviting God's judgment on our nation when we shake our fist at him and say, 'We know better than you as to what constitutes a marriage.'" Chick-fil-A, which closes on Sundays, includes opposition to same-sex marriage as part of its Christian values work ethic.
Many supporters of same-sex marriage and LGBT rights became upset and there were calls to boycott the restaurant chain. In response, some opponents of same-sex marriage called for more people to eat at Chick-fil-A. This included former Arkansas gov Mike Huckabee, saying that August 1 should be Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day.
Even if yesterday wasn't officially a holiday, Chick-fil-A did receive record business. In response, LGBT supporters have asked people to donate $6.50 or so to groups supporting gay and lesbian rights. Why that amount? Because that's about how much it would cost to get a meal at Chick-fil-A. Same-sex marriage supporters are also planning a National Same Sex Kiss Day tomorrow. Instead of going to Chick-fil-A to buy some food, they'll kiss at the restaurants and share images and vids of it on social media. So the line "the personal is political" can now include where people choose to eat...and where they kiss.
What do you think of the Chick-fil-A dramz?
