It's been just over a year since Demi Lovato's power ballad "Skyscraper" marked her emotional return to the spotlight -- and just like this epic song triumphantly declared, Demi's star is still rising. She just hosted the Teen Choice Awards and soon you can catch her on Fox's "X Factor" with fellow lady judge and comeback kid Britney Spears. More importantly, she's become a #realtalk role model for healthy body image, anti-bullying and more. So that's why we decided to revisit the brave video that proved nothing could tear Demi down!
After the former Disney sweetheart courageously went public with her personal battle against eating disorders, depression and self-harm back in 2010, many feared the stressed-out singer would never top the charts again. But once the world watched a determined Demi stand her ground in a desert of broken glass in the super symbolic "Skyscraper" vid, it was clear the Lovatics were right -- their darling diva had faced her demons and she was back with a fierceness!

"That video was an emotional release for me, like therapy...I kept crying, I was so emotionally invested...That's when I realized, that's what music videos are all about," Demi explained. "There were so many things that represented my addictions and eating disorders and self-harm. When I'm unraveling this black fabric...it was the toxicity that took over my mind for so long, that oozed out of every pore that I had because I was suffering inside...I'm taking it off and walking on broken glass and powering through it."
It takes some serious guts to admit you're hurting and need help -- especially while you're under the harsh magnifying glass of celebrity status. Unless you really are made of paper and glass, you gotta feel the raw intensity of Demi's commitment to rebuilding herself as she lets the camera close in on her tears. That's why MTV was so proud to share Demi's message that "love is louder" with our docu-special "Stay Strong."
Every time we watch this intimate and inspiring video, we just fall head over heels in Lovato all over again! So join Demi's stand against hate -- from others AND yourself -- by taking action below!
