Get ready to check back into the Overlook Hotel, because we could be headed back for a prequel to "The Shining." The LA Times reported that Warner Brothers is "quietly exploring the possibility of a prequel to 'The Shining.'"

This possibility of a "Shining" prequel is supported by the creative development of Laeta Kalogridis who wrote the script for Martin Scorsese's haunting "Shutter Island." James Vanderbilt ("Zodiac") and Bradley Fischer ("Black Swan"), both veteran writers and producers of psychological thrillers, join Kalogridis on the project. And while a team has been assembled, "a WB spokeswoman cautioned that any 'Shining' prequel was in a very early stage and not even formally in development." It is not clear yet what the plot for a prequel would look like.

News of a prequel is unrelated to the sequel that Stephen King is currently working on titled "Doctor Sleep." The official synopsis for King's sequel says that teh novel tells the story of a "now middle-aged Dan Torrance (the boy protagonist of 'The Shining') and the very special twelve-year-old girl he must save from a tribe of murderous paranormals." "Doctor Sleep" has not yet been optioned for a feature film.
