Bimonthly, we'll take an artist on the rise on the MTV Music Meter and, to help you discover them a little more, detail some of their philanthropic tendencies. We've covered a lot of amazing musicians -- from Mika to Ellie Goulding. This week: Vampire Weekend!

Vampires are totally in right now, and so is Vampire Weekend, whose third studio album, Modern Vampires Of The City dropped this week. While vamps are often cold-hearted, this four-person indie rock band has been anything but cold throughout their career. Maybe "Modern Vampires" aren't so bad after all!

+ They Clean Up The Environment

"True Blood" fans know Louisiana as vampire territory, so it comes as no surprise that Vampire Weekend did their part to help out after the 2010 Gulf oil spill, during which an estimated 4.9 million barrels of oil leaked into the Gulf! Following the spill, Vampire Weekend, Phoenix, Passion Pit, and many others donated tracks to Global Green USA's Gasoline Rainbows album to raise money for the cleanup.

+ They Pay Fans' Medical Bills

Last April, Vampire Weekend donated signed pictures and CDs to a charity auction to benefit Asa Adams -- a newborn with a serious heart defect. Bon Iver and many other bands contributed, and all of the money raised was used to help pay Asa's medical bills. Pretty sure Asa is now their youngest and biggest fan ever!

+ They Play For Hurricane Relief

Last November, Vampire Weekend played an acoustic set at St. Ann & The Holy Trinity church in Brooklyn, NY, to raise money for  Occupy Sandy. Occupy Sandy was created to rebuild the areas hardest hit by Hurricane Sandy. Although it's been months since the hurricane, many homes and businesses are still in need of rebuilding!
