Adam Lambert has done a lot of work for LGBT rights, and this past weekend he was honored at the 24th Annual GLAAD Media Awards in San Francisco. Spice Girl Mel B finally got her chance to give Adam the Davidson/Valentini Award, and we got a chance to listen to his great words on love and acceptance.

Anyone who gets an award is expected to give a speech, and our glamorous Mr. Lambert more than delivered. "After ALMOST winning 'American Idol,' I've become a public figure," he said. "An openly gay public figure. And with that comes a lot of responsibility and a lot of opinions. One person thinks you should be more this, another thinks you should be more that, the label thinks this, the fans thinks that, your family wishes this, this community wants you to shut up, that community wants it louder, the conservatives, the liberals...Whadaya want from me?!"

"You know, at the end of the day, it's not always so black and white," he said, speaking then about the Stonewall generation and the next generation. "We're right in the middle of two generations with two different perspectives, but one common thread: love."

He continued, "The best we can do is to keep it real and to spread a message of acceptance." His goal is to represent himself and his community proudly, and he can see that progress has been made for LGBT rights in recent years. He calls on people to unify, get over their little differences, and work toward more acceptance and love.

Clearly, Adam, who is performing on the "American Idol" season finale on Thursday, May 16, had many words of wisdom. But hey, that's what we want from him! And we wouldn't expect anything less.
