First, she wooed us with a "Love Song," then she leveled us with "Gravity." Now Sara Bareilles is inviting everyone to join in and be "Brave" with her new music video. "Brave" is the first single off of Bareilles' third studio album The Blessed Unrest, and the video is actress Rashida Jones' first foray into directing.
Bareilles wrote the song with fun.'s Jack Antonoff after being inspired "by a close friend of who struggled with coming out." In the behind-the-scenes video below, Antonoff calls "Brave" an anthem, while Bareilles encourages people to embrace who they really are. She says there is "so much honor and integrity and beauty in being able to be who you are." She said that by being brave yourself, you also "give others permission to do the same."

"Brave" is Bareilles' most pop tune to date, and the song has an upbeat video to match. The video starts with Bareilles and a few other people as they slowly break out into a choreographed dance routine -- wherever they are in public. The gym, the library, waiting for a bus. The dancers aren't alone for long, however; soon other smiling strangers are persuaded by the dancers' courage to have fun and join in on the impromptu performances.

We love that Bareilles was inspired to write this tune with her friend in mind. It takes a lot of bravery to be who you really are and simply dance like nobody's watching. Feeling a little down? Help a friend and find resources online at Half Of Us or take action below for more information.
