30 Seconds to Mars has one of the most dedicated fan armies on the planet. The fans, who call themselves The Echelon, have planted trees in Haiti, funded a well to provide clean drinking water to those in need, and built houses in the band's name. To show his phans (fans + philanthropists) his gratitude, Jared Leto gave them a free concert in Union Square!
If Leto tweets it, they will come. And that's exactly what happened when Leto tweeted that he was grabbing his guitar and heading to Union Square in New York City. He told his followers that he was putting on an impromptu concert just for them! We can't think of a more awesome way to give back to your fans than to invite them to sit less than five feet away from you while you serenade them with their favorite songs for free.
The band's fourth studio album, LOVE LUST FAITH + DREAMS, will be released in less than a week on May 21. To stay up to date on what The Echelon is up to and what world-changing cause they're tackling next, check out Echelon Donates. The ladies that founded the group are responsible for some amazing projects, so if you're looking to show 30STM some love while saving the world, you'll definitely want to get involved.
