Let it be known: love always wins! Macklemore's "Same Love" has gone platinum, but the singer says the real victory is seeing the steps forward we've taken on equality.
The rapper Tweeted:
Same Love is officially platinum... That means more to me than any of the other sales. Thank you to all that have supported equality

Ben Haggerty, better known to the world as Macklemore, collaborated with Ryan Lewis to create "Same Love," a powerful song about gay rights, being gay, and being an ally. The song is pure rap poetry, and get a load of these lyrics:
"Gay is synonymous with the lesser
It's the same hate that's caused wars from religion
Gender to skin color, the complexion of your pigment
The same fight that led people to walk outs and sit ins
It's human rights for everybody, there is no difference!/Live on and be yourself."

MTV Act got an exclusive interview with him where he talked about his inspiration for the song. "You can only watch injustice go on for so long until you're compelled to say something," he said. "To speak out against it. I read an article about a 13-year-old kid who committed suicide because he was ridiculed at school over being gay. That was it. I had to say something."
He not only said it, he sang it! And judging by the platinum level success of the song, listeners are seriously digging it. And perhaps so is Macklemore's new BFF Jay-Z? Regardless, we want to say congrats to Macklemore for going platinum ( and congrats to LGBTQ activists for all the strides being made lately. In both cases, love wins.
