Friends are for gossiping and dancing with, but do you know they're also good for your mental and physical health? In a recent interview with HuffPost Teen, Demi Lovato spoke about the important role her BFFs Nick Jonas, Selena Gomez and Miley Cyrus played in her recovery.
"You know, people in my life — like Selena and Nick and Miley, even — they've all been there for me during really hard times," the "Heart Attack" singer said of her time spent in rehab. "I like to surround myself with people who understand where I am in my life and that have my best interests at heart. I feel like — especially with Nick — I feel like I can call him when I'm really struggling or whatever, and he'll be there for me. It's a really good feeling to have a friend like that."
Although it can sometimes feel difficult to ask for help from friends, that's what friends are for! Friendship is a clinically proven stress-reducer (unless your friends are ultra-dramatic), and has a direct impact on our minds and bodies. If you're going through tough times, take a page out of Demi's book and confide in the people who love you most. Just like it's OK to talk about stomach pains and sore throats, it's totally okay to discuss our achy minds.
