After hanging out with Robbie Rogers at the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center last month in Los Angeles, we mostly heard two kinds of responses regarding the interview -- "Robbie, you're my hero," and "OMG SO JEALOUS WISH I WUZ THEREEE." Someone was listening because Robbie is taking to Google Hangouts with The Trevor Project to answer your questions!
The 26-year-old soccer star made headlines earlier this year when he posted a letter to his website coming out and retiring from the game. But within a few short months, he was training with the Los Angeles Galaxy and signed with the team -- a move he made after feeling "like a coward" since sharing a message of bravery and pride to young athletes he wasn't taking up himself. He's the first openly gay male athlete to take the field in any of the top five American sports. "The moment I think I m most proud of," he told us, "is going back to training the first day because I was so afraid. I had this idea built up in my head that it was going to be so awkward, and not a good situation but it was. That's the moment that I was like, 'Okay Robbie, you're becoming stronger now."
We also chatted about his upcoming Beyond 'It' campaign, his interest in fashion, and, obvi, whether he was single or not (HE IS!) Now it's your turn to ask the big questions! Tweet @robbierogers your questions with the hashtag #talktoRobbie before the chat this Sunday, July 14 at 2pm ET. The Hangout will be taking place before Robbie takes the field at the Steve Nash Foundation Showdown, a soccer match between soccer and basketball players to benefit critical needs services for youth. Stay tuned to Robbie's Twitter feed for a link to the chat, and watch him give more details in the video.
