Alicia Keys recently took a stand against HIV and its stigma by announcing her plans to get tested on National HIV Testing Day. Now she's taking a stand against extreme poverty -- and she wants you to join her!
The singer Tweeted:
Proud to be part of @GLBLCTZN Festival in NYC 9/28. We CAN end extreme poverty. Join me, take action, earn free tix: http://t.co/aT62hmehpn

The Global Citizen Festival 2013 is taking place on September 28 in Central Park, and we're hoping it's going to be even bigger and more awesome than its debut last year. The festival will have live music from Alicia, Kings of Leon, John Mayer and Stevie Wonder but it's also about activism. The main goal is to end extreme poverty, and it's been split up into different areas: education, health, women's equality and global partnerships. You see, if someone is educated, for example, they're more likely to be able to take care of their finances and their health, and this pulls them out of poverty. This is especially true for women, because in many places women are denied the opportunities to become educated and self-sustaining.
You can win tix by taking action. For instance, if you're passionate in the area of women's equality, you can get points by pledging to support family planning. When a woman has control over her body, it empowers her. If you want to go down the education route, you can get points by signing the "Stand with Malala" petition. Of course, you can also get involved with all the different themes! We might be citizens of all different countries, but when it comes down to it, we're all citizens of the earth. And that's something that has Alicia singing!
