The "Scary Movie" franchise and the parody comedy genre in general have hit some hard times. With YouTube making instantaneous spoofs of current movies possible, the nine month gestation period of studio riffs makes them more or less irrelevant. That's why it's worth noting that for "Scary Movie 5," they're trying something different.
In the new trailer for the horror spoof, which stars Ashley Tisdale, Charlie Sheen, and Lindsay Lohan, movies like "Mama" and "Evil Dead" are getting poked fun at, in addition to all of the "Paranormal Activity" jokes that we saw in the first trailer.
"Mama" only came out in January, and "Evil Dead" isn't out until next month. Is what we're seeing an attempt from the "Scary Movie" camp to keep things up-to-date? We'll have to see when the movie hits theaters next month.
