First it was the Australian Classification Board, now James Franco is calling more people out for not supporting gay themes in films. This time, advertisers have pulled out of projects he's associated with because of the straight actor's gay image.
"I've lost three advertising campaigns now because companies say they don't like my image, but I know it's directly related to the [gay] films that I put out at Sundance," he told reporters at the SXSW premier of "Spring Breakers." "There is still this homophobia or prejudice against certain kinds of material in mainstream cinema. I don't know what would signal a significant change, but I think some change still needs to happen."
Just last week, James addressed Aussie censors for banning a gay film from the Melbourne and Brisbane Queer Film Festivals. His willingness to speak out for the gay community as an ally and depict their lives as raw and real as possible should be celebrated -- let's be real.
Take action below if you believe that all people should have the right to love whoever they want, and James Franco should have the right to make out with boys in films whenever he wants!
