First, Netflix resurrected "Arrested Development." Now fans are helping to bring back "Veronica Mars." This revival trend seems like great news for Browncoats, who have been waiting since 2005 (when "Serenity" hit theaters) for more adventures with Captain Mal & Co.

And yet...

It's not as if the fans — and the actors — aren't willing; the well-meaning attempt to "Help Nathan (Fillion) Buy 'Firefly'" as well as the turnout at last year's Comic-Con reunion panel proved that the passion is still there. But to make a Joss Whedon show or movie, the first thing you need is Joss Whedon. And he's been kind of busy.

Even the man who managed to shoot a feature film in 12 days while on break from making the third biggest movie of all time has his limitations. This is what Whedon told BuzzFeed:

I've said repeatedly that I would love to make another movie with these guys, and that remains the case. It also remains the case that I'm booked up by Marvel for the next three years, and that I haven't even been able to get "Dr. Horrible 2" off the ground because of that. So I don't even entertain the notion of entertaining the notion of doing this, and won't. Couple years from now, when Nathan [Fillion]'s no longer [on] "Castle" and I'm no longer the Tom Hagen of the Marvel Universe and making a giant movie, we might look and see where the market is then. But right now, it's a complete non-Kickstarter for me.

We were encouraged about "Dr. Horrible" after our conversation with Maurissa Tancharoen last year. Now it looks like both Captain Mal and Captain Hammer will have to wait. As will the fans... just a little bit longer.
