Watch out, world! (And, by world, I mean Justin Bieber.) Justin Timberlake is back on the music scene with his new album The 20/20 Experience, and his second single "Mirrors" and its accompanying video are sonically and visually stunning!
At first, I thought "Mirrors" was a stupid love song for Jessica Biel (Can you feel my jealousy through the computer screen?), but it turns out its dedicated to Justin's grandparents, William and Sadie, and their 63-year marriage. The "Mirrors" clip, directed by Floria Sigismondi, is the pastel-colored story of William and Sadie's entire relationship -- from the glory years, to the gory years, to the golden years.
Justin pays maaajor respect to the elderly, and here's how you can too.
+ Volunteer at a Local Nursing Home
According to the Center For Disease Control, over 1.5 million Americans live in nursing homes. The elderly need companionship just as much as you do, and spending time with them in any capacity -- be it a one-time visit or a regular thing -- can brighten their lives immensely. Most nursing homes offer a range of volunteer programs; find one near you and get started!
+ Call A Grandparent
Last fall, Justin Timberlake had slices of his wedding cake flown halfway around the world so that his grandpa, who was too ill to make the trip to Italy, could enjoy it. What have you done for your grandparents lately, eh? Tell your grandma you love her; send your grandpa one of those chocolate bars your grandma won't let him have; take every chance you can get to show your grandparents how much they matter to you.
+ Teach the Elderly Social Media
How would you feel if your friends got a cool new app to keep in touch, but didn't teach you to use it too?! Only 53% of seniors actively engage with the Internet. That leaves almost half of them with no idea how to connect online. DoSomething.org's Grandparents Gone Wired campaign encourages young people to teach the elderly to use social media to keep in touch with family, reconnect with old friends, and feel like a part of modern society.
Take action below to B.L.J. (Be Like Justin) and send your love to the people who made the people who made you.
