March is Music In Our Schools Month, and while budget cuts have left many schools without music education programs, these 5 organizations are working night and day to keep the music alive.

+ VH1's Save The Music Foundation

Founded in 1997, VH1's Save The Music Foundation aims to give every child access to music education regardless of their financial situation. Save The Music has provided $49.5 million in new musical instruments to 1,850 public schools around the nation, including PS/IS 180 in Harlem, where they donated acoustic and electric guitars to 4th, 5th, and 6th graders. The best way to get involved with Save The Music is to make a donation, attend an event, or become an advocate for music education.

+ Music Unites

Music Unites works to transform inner cities by providing urban youth with music education. The organization partners with established artists, including celebrity ambassador Swizz Beatz, to raise money and awareness for music programs. Get involved by volunteering for Music Unites or starting a branch on your college campus!

+ The Grammy Foundation

Without music education, there will be no future Grammy winners! The Grammy Foundation's Grammy In The Schools initiative offers youth camps and training, as well as rewards phenomenal teachers and music programs. Since its inception in 1989, the foundation has helped hundreds of thousands of children, and given millions in grants to U.S. music programs. Students can get involved by nominating their fave music teacher for an award, or applying for the foundation's Grammy Camp.

+ Ear Candy

Ear Candy promotes music education by holding musical instrument drives and giving people the tools to host their own. Ear Candy brought music to over 15,000 students between 2011 and 2012. "Play" it forward by finding or starting a music instrument drive in your area!

+ Give A Note Foundation

The Give A Note Foundation aims to bring music to all children, especially those in low-income communities. The foundation is a branch of the National Association for Music Education, which reaches over 20 million American children and families. FOX's "Glee" is donating 100% of the net proceeds from the U.S. downloads of its 500th single "Shout" to Give A Note. Purchase the song on iTunes if you give a note!
